Prison In-Reach

Helping Heathens stay connected to their faith, and helping them re-integrate into the community.

Our In-Reach Service is a resource for those incarcerated felons who state they either are on the path of Heathenry or they are interested in learning more. But, this program is more than just that.

While yes, it is a resource, it also provides the inmate with a means of communicating with someone outside of the facility who is a practicing Heathen. It provides the inmate with the understanding that there is someone who hears them and is willing to listen to their questions, share in their good news and assist in coping with situations from a Heathen viewpoint.

The correspondence also is a means of communicating inclusivity as opposed to the exclusivity of other groups.

The communication between Troth staff and the inmate is a means of determining what resources that inmate needs, as in books/information on Troth membership/Holy Days/or just how to deal with prison life, from a Heathen point of view.

But as equally important, the In-Reach program provides the facility Chaplains and Administrative staff with positive and, as accurate as possible, information concerning our religion.

This is a necessary part of sharing with Correctional staff, our policies, what resources we, as an organization, can provide the inmate and for those who members of the Troth who participate in the program, our willingness to follow the facility’s policies which have been set in place, for safety reasons. And the best part about this program, we not only encourage the inmate to see his or her life in a new way, we get to assist the facility staff to learn that Heathenry is a positive, life affirming path.
